Countryside Community Church Altar
The sanctuary in this gorgeous new building has the shape of a dish, with the altar at the lowest point. The space above it is exceptionally light and open. Built from four solid timbers of white oak, the mass of this altar becomes the gravity of the room. It becomes the whole earth.
This church is the Christian representation in a grand adventure called “The Tri-Faith Initiative.” On one campus, there is a mosque, a Jewish temple, and this church, with the explicit intention of being neighbors. They program events together and make a strong effort to participate with one another often. It’s an honor for me to be able to make a contribution.
Design mostly by Nancy Novak of Alley Poyner Macchietto Architecture, with some input from me and Les Bruning, who made the bronze cantilever.
